Conflict of interest

Cheesiest title ever! Anyhoo, long time no blog. Sorry got caught up in the world of higher education, or getting high while being educated, which ever works for your preferred life style. Wow that last line made me sound like a pot head. I asure that I am not. But it has been questioned at times. I am at work, which I think is the birthplace of a lot of blog enteries, and I have been doing research on the affects of college students doing peer education with high school students. Lots of interesting stuff. This job is going to be a challege for me I think. I am what you would call a peer educator. I go around campus and educate people on the dangers of: Alcohol, unprotected sex, rape, violence and things of that nature. I think I will do fine with everything except for the sex part. See I dont like the idea of just handing out condoms. While making sure people stay safe is all gravy and what not, I am not for pre-marital sex. In a way I feel I am granting people the permission to do whatever. Not like they need my permission, but some just maybe seeking the approval of it. I have decided to avoid the work shops that would be having me pass out condoms to the masses. For me I think it is just sending out the wrong message. Why pass out the condoms, if I am not for the practice? This theory is not for everyone, just like there lifestyle is not for me. What do you all think about it? Not sure how many read this but I just think it posses a good question: "What message are you receiving?", and "Would you want your little girl being passed condoms?" Think about it.

It's great that you are so willing to help out and get the right messages to the students of EKU. And I think its great that you do it, while still holding to what you believe in. Thats one of the many things that makes me love you so much babe ;)

I agree. It is always nice to see someone stick to thier beliefs. Even if I don't share those same exact beliefs. Personally I believe handing out condoms is a double edged sword. Yes it is almost saying its ok to have sex before marraige, but I also believe that it could be naive to think kids these days won't. So why not try a solution that will be more vocal to them. Going for abstinence i think might be shooting to high at this point.
